After watching the documentaries "Food Inc." and "King Corn", how do you think the food industry is related to the following trends in obesity.
United States Obesity Rate: 30.6%

The number of obese and overweight children has now climbed to 30% in 30 states

Also, what other modern problems may be partially attributed to the food industry?

ReplyDeletemodern day problems include disease, body dysfunctions, eating disorders, and many more that i really dont want to take the time to think about.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching those movies, I am led to believe that the food industries newer policies are leading to such a surpluss of food that people are just getting more and more food, so they are getting more and moore obese.
ReplyDeletethe reason why children are so obese is beacuse they arnt going to the gym enough and the reason why they arnt going to the gym is the high prices of the gym. Just lower the prices to the gym, and kids wont be fat. problem solved, just another day for me.
ReplyDeleteTim made some great points about the modern day problems and a even better point that its not worth thinking about them.
ReplyDeletethe obesity rate is going up due to the fact that all of the cheaper food are unhealthy. not everyone can shop at whole foods. people need to put down the twinkies and pick up some weights
ReplyDeleteGUYZ, R U CRZY?!?! ITZ THA FOODZ WE EAT THAT R FULL OF CORN. THA LEVELS OF CORN BI-PRODUCTS IZ JUS REDIC. WE NEED 2 STOP THA BIG COMPS BY BOYCOTTING THOSE PRODUCTS. SURE EXCERCISE CUD HELP BUT SERIOUZLY, ITZ THA FOOD. THA OBESITY RATE IZ 30% ND RIZING, INTERVENTION IZ NEEDED 4 THIS 2 STOP. OH NOEZZZZ!!1!!1!
ReplyDeleteI hardly agree with James. He "goes" to the gym but look at what its done for him. . . Maybe he should just do something like run track instead because that's very healthy and can really help him slim down
ReplyDeleteyo cmurph ur being madd ignant right now. I think its that cava edumacation that made u that way
ReplyDeleteI agree with connor, exclamation points and all. If the consumer doesnt try to change the system then it wont change!
ReplyDeletei agree with tim as well , why think about it? if people arent trying to help themselves, if they watched what they eat then there probably wouldnt be a problem in their weight or a problem in their health.

ReplyDeleteObesity rate is going up so rapidly because of low costing unhealthy foods like fast food joints and such. The people of today need to stop hitting u the dollar menu and hit the gym.
ReplyDeleteObesity is such a common problem in the U.S. and there are many things people can try to do to prevent them, but it's up to the individual to take care of themselves and make healthy decisions, no one can do it for them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Myles, fast food places are giving out lower prices so people will eat more. People are also too lazy to go to the gym, and even if they know what foods that have eatn that are bad for them they still don't consider working out. It's basically up to yourself to do what you need to do for your weight.
ReplyDeleteConnor cldn't hav sed it better..
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shaggy. The obesity rate is going up due to the fact that all of the cheaper foods are unhealthy. People need to exercise more , instead of sitting in the house watching tv ; they should get out and go walking. Also instead of eating fast food all the time , they should eat more healthy like salads and alot of fruits&vegatbels.

ReplyDeleteI THInK that the corn has alot to do with obesity. bt i must say its not all the farmers fault if theese people ate theeese products at a moderate rate with atleast a 30 ,mins of exersize .obesity would not be this bad..
ReplyDeleteThe obesity rate is fastly rising due to fast food chains, lack of exercise, and cheaply priced unhealthy food. I think that manufactorers should produce more healthy cheaply priced foods opposed to unhealthy foods; its unfair that people can not afford healthy food.
ReplyDeleteway to go connor, totally agree...
ReplyDeleteI think the obesity rate is going up so much because everybody goes to mcdonalds 40 times a day to "hit the dollar menu". all the food that young kids can afford are wicked fattening and awful. everybody needs to stop getting caught up with eating quick food and just take an hour out of their day to cook something healthy, it isn't that hard.
ReplyDeletei agree with 35f36b1c-3470-11e0-9a65-000bcdca4d7a ..ROCK ON!
ReplyDeleteI agree with everybody above me. The obesity RATE oop caps.. is a problem. But I don't think the gym would reaaallllyyyy solve that 'cause I go to the gym and I'm stillllll fat =] But I don't eat all that nasty junk so I dunno my issssue?! Americans are clearly meant to be bigger or something... Jk Idk but everybody is correct.
ReplyDeleteLearning that much of food is made out of corn really got me upset. I think that it is very gross and every company should be honest with their customers about their “meat”. The food industry is definitely to blame for the growing rate of obesity in America. I strongly agree with Shelby and think that another issue in American these days is overall health and nutrition. The price of healthy food is increasing and the unhealthy food is decreasing in price and therefore people lack a common understanding about heath and good nutrition, also these people are not going to the gym and keeping themselves physically healthy as well as nutritionally.
ReplyDeleteobesity rate is increasing because of the cheaper fattty fooods and fast food resteraunts!!!
ReplyDelete^^^^amanda demers
ReplyDeleteThe food industry isn't making the greatest food for our society but the people in the US aren't helping by not doing any physical activity.
ReplyDeleteI agree with flock. She knows what shes talking about
ReplyDeleteI believe that child obesity may be blamed on the parents, due to the parents eating habbits themselves, or cause the parents don't have the heart to say no to thier child.
ReplyDeleteUnited States is the state with the highest obesity rate. It is sad to see that most is of being young children. Agreeing with some other students above it is very unhealthy and people are mistaken for what food is healthy and what isnn't. People cannot afford healthy food therefore they are ingesting only the things affordable but bad.
ReplyDeletelauren felaccio
ReplyDeleteI think the obesity rate is really sad. People really need to start caring more about their body and how they eat. I agree with everyone how overall the united states is really unhealthy and healthy foods should be cheaper so people could afford them more.
the obesity level in the world in increasing drastically because many people can't afford healthy food like organic foods. unhealthy food is normally cheaper and there fore thats what the average family will buy, even though it may cause obesity. healthier foods should be cheaper so more people can stay healthy and in shape!
ReplyDeleteObesity is caused by mcdonalds! mcdonalds should not exist, it is the main reason the U.S. has an obseity problem, because we have a fast food resturaunt every 20 miles. its not only unhealthy for your body but you dont feel good, your body doesnt get the energy it needs to go through your day.
ReplyDeleteits not that kids cant afford to be skinny there not encouraged enough to loose weight
ReplyDeleteAs then nation begins to grow rapidly over the last few years, food companies have now began to process food that can easily be recooked, however the food is not healthly for people to eat. The food contains high amounts of fat and sugar, but as we race around to get to where we are going we ignore the fact and eat the food. Fast food gives us the easy route of food to eat even with given knowledge of unhealthy. Many helath problems that occur today and be traced to fatting food, such, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol. kevin brings up a good point about the parents being blamed. I have seen parents buy fatting food such as oreos and fried chicken, because it is cheap and fast to cook, but again the government regulates the price of food, with helath food being so high Parents have to go to cheaper less helath food to feed the family.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sarah when she says people can not afford healthy food so they only eat what they can afford which is all frozen, processed food. Healthy food is more expensive because you actually ahve to buy each part of the meal and then go home and take the time to make it. Obesity is so common because fast food places are so cheap and so are proccessed food in the grocery store. if people instead of buying snacks and quick meals bought real food that they went home to cook it would be much more healthy because the food has nutrition in it, it just takes more time
ReplyDeletei think it that because we cdan produce food at such a fast rate people just buy more, eat, more, and then become fatter.
ReplyDeletei also agree with sarah that healthy food is more exspensive so people just go for what they can afford which tends to be the less healthy food.
I agree with myles and shelby. many people are over weight because its just so easy to go out and get something unhealthy and its cheap. in stead on spending your money on unhealthy food people should be thinking about what theyre eating before they do and think how its going to effect their body if they keep eating that way.
ReplyDeletei think that the 30% obesity rate is a insanly high percentage and that it needs to change. It's incredible that we can eat so much and so unhealthy and there are people starving in other countries. also, we throw away so much food that is still edible.
ReplyDeleteThe obesity rate is much higher than it should be and the food that eveyrone eats is the real problem. Cheap food is usually unhealthy and some people can't afford the more expensive, healthier food.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anthony. Fast food is cheap and a lot of people chose to eat it over healthier foods. I think that is contributing a lot to obesity.
ReplyDeleteFast food can be allright in moderation but too many people eat it too much, and do not compensate with physical activity
ReplyDeletethe obesity rate is going up due to the fact that all of the cheaper food are unhealthy. eating healthier is the key to less obesity. I completely agree with shaggy.
ReplyDeletei think the food industry makes to much of unhealthy food and its cheap so thats what people are buying. the obesity in the counrty is mostly caused by food industries.
ReplyDeletei agree with katie the individual needs to take action and do it themself.
The increase in American obesity shows that American consumers are now buying more food than ever. Especially unhealthy foods which in todays industry are usually cheaper and more tempting to shoppers. People need to curb their diets to a more healthy routine and staying fit will be much easier. Tried to post sunday/monday
ReplyDeletethe food industry is related to the trends in obesity. The higher priced the food is usually the more healthier it is. So for the unwealthy or poor citizens that tend to buy the cheap unhealthy food. Tried to post monday morning would let me
ReplyDeleteObesity rates are going up because unhealthy foods are less expensive as healthier foods. For example, its cheaper to buy a mcdouble at mcdonalds instead of organic fruits and veggies at the grocery store. This needs to be fixed before the rates go down.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with shaun. Fast food consumption needs to be cut down.
ReplyDeleteThe food industry is relatede to the obesity levels because of the crazy food prices for healthy food. Why would anyone who doesnt have enough money to pay bills go out and buy a 20 dollar healthy meal when they could go to mcdonalds and get a 2 dollar hamburger meal. This is sad and I agree with Suan. The government should be held accountable for this because they are the ones accountable for complaining about obesity but let food prices be so high!!
ReplyDeleteI THINK PEOPLE SHOULD REALLY WATCH WHATT THEYY EAT. AND GO FOR A RUN OR SUM DAMN...
ReplyDeletei agree with shaun you cant eat fast food every day and expect to lose weight or even stay at the same weight
ReplyDeleteI think the food industry is almost 100% responsible becasue of all the corn syrup they are putting in the food. our foods could be make more heathy with diffrent ingredence and we probly wouldent even know it .
ReplyDeleteToday, most people eat processed foods produced by companies that mass produce their foods. Because the food is processed it has less nutritional value. Another modern problem is that people don't excercise enough.
ReplyDeleteThe food trends in the us are directly related to the high obesity rate in the united states because Americans today go to mcdonalds and burger king for a quick bite to eat when they are too busy to make dinner or dont have time between work, kids, school etc. The fast food industry has tried to make their food seem more healthy than it used to be, but even though most are cutting down on the fat, making a home-made meal is still healthier and alot of times people stop for fast food on the go. Also driving instead of walking has alot to do with it because before driving became so popular, people walked to school work and other places and now its easier to drive because of all the highways etc. People are excersizing less and eating more fatty food on the go and it adds up faster than we realize.
ReplyDeleteI think it's disguting how heavy Americans are getting compared to how many people are starving all over the world! America is so gluttonous, it's appaling!!
ReplyDeleteAlright, i beleive the obesity rate in America is increasing because inorder to eat healthy it costs alot of money! If you go to the organic isle at Shaws the prices are ridiculous! People are always on the run and never have time to cook a decent meal, so they run to mcdonalds or grab an unhealthy snack thats full of carbs (and its also more cost effecient, unfortunitly) Especially for kids my age who just got their lisences and are broke! I also beleive that people now knowing what they are putting into their bodies is a major factor. I never knew how sodium, saturated fat, calories, sugar what ever effected my body, and im sure im not the only one!
ReplyDeletethe U.S. has the highest obesity rate. The costs of organic and healthy foods are higher than that of average grocery store food and/or fastfood. Many young kids and even adults these days cant afford alot because of the economy and the price and tax of every item is being raised. So many are resorting to food that is cheap for them and people just stop caring about their weight. They should atleast go to the gym to keep a consistent and healthy weight or even start to diet. If you save your money for the healthy foods you will bebetter off in the end. And i agree with katie^ that it is every individuals decision on what to and not to eat.
ReplyDeletemodern day food prblems consist of obesity anerexia and other eating disorders due to eating to much or not enough
